Wireshark

The world's leading network protocol analyzer.

Visit Wireshark

Wireshark is a free, open-source network protocol analyzer for capturing and interactively examining traffic on a computer network. It supports live capture and offline analysis, with deep inspection of hundreds of protocols, and runs on Windows, macOS, Linux, FreeBSD, NetBSD and other platforms, with source builds available elsewhere. It is maintained by the Wireshark Foundation, a non-profit funded by donations.

Core capabilities include a three-pane packet browser, TTY-mode TShark utility, display filters, VoIP analysis, decryption support for protocols such as IPsec, Kerberos, SNMPv3, SSL/TLS and WPA/WPA2, coloring rules, and export to XML, PostScript, CSV or plain text. It reads and writes many capture file formats, including libpcap, Pcap NG and various vendor formats, and can capture from Ethernet, IEEE 802.11, PPP/HDLC, ATM, Bluetooth, USB and other link types depending on platform.

Wireshark is aimed at network engineers, analysts, security practitioners and educators working with network diagnostics and protocol analysis. It is distributed as free software under the GNU General Public License, with no paid editions, trials or seat-based licensing; the full version is available without a license fee.
