Angry IP Scanner
Fast and friendly network scanner
Angry IP Scanner is an open-source, cross-platform network scanner that runs on Windows, Mac, and Linux without requiring installation. It solves the problem of quickly identifying which IP addresses in a given range are active on a network, and what ports are open on those hosts. The tool pings each address to check if it is alive, then optionally resolves hostnames, determines MAC addresses, and scans ports.
Its main capabilities include scanning IP ranges, random addresses, or addresses from a file. Results can be exported to CSV, TXT, XML, or IP-Port list formats. The scanner uses a multithreaded approach to increase speed, creating a separate thread for each IP address. Additional features include NetBIOS information retrieval, web server detection, customizable openers, and favorite IP address ranges. Functionality can be extended through plugins written in Java, and a command-line interface is available.
The tool is primarily intended for network administrators to monitor and manage their networks. It is free and open-source software licensed under GPLv2, with the full source code available. There is no mention of a free plan, trial, or paid editions; the software appears to be offered without cost or usage-based restrictions.
