Kismet

Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, RF, and more

Visit Kismet

Kismet is a wireless sniffer, wireless intrusion detection system (WIDS), and wardriving tool for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Zigbee, RF, and other wireless protocols. It runs on Linux and macOS, with Windows supported through remote capture via WSL. The project is free and open source.

Kismet supports distributed capture, allowing remote capture over TCP sockets or websockets to collect data from multiple sensors in one place. Beyond Wi-Fi, it can collect information about Bluetooth, RF sensors, 802.15.4 Zigbee, ADSB airplane beacons, power meters, water meters, and nRF-based keyboards, depending on hardware and driver support. It provides a unified kismetdb logfile that combines packets, devices, location, and runtime data in a standard sqlite3 file, along with a comprehensive REST API for scripting against the Kismet server. Release and nightly packages are built for many popular Linux distributions.

Kismet is suited to network security professionals, researchers, and wireless enthusiasts working with Wi-Fi and other wireless protocols. It is available as free, open source software, with release and nightly packages for Linux distributions and native support on macOS.
