OpenShot

Free, open-source video editor for Linux, Mac, and Windows

Visit OpenShot

OpenShot is a free, open-source video editor for Linux, macOS, and Windows, created in 2008 by Jonathan Thomas. It provides a workspace for cutting, slicing, and arranging video, audio, and images, along with color grading, effects, and animation, without subscriptions, watermarks, or project limits. The interface is built with Python and PyQt5, with a C++ video processing backend (libopenshot) using FFmpeg, an HTML5/JavaScript/AngularJS timeline, and optional Blender-powered 3D effects.

Features include color grading with color wheels, curves, LUTs, and video scopes; an effects library with keyframable properties; keyframe animation with linear, constant, or Bézier interpolation; multi-track timeline editing with snapping and frame-accurate controls; more than 400 transition patterns; interactive video masks; audio visualizations; 2D and 3D titles (including Blender-rendered titles); and a recording panel for screen, webcam, and microphone capture. Project files can move between operating systems, and FFmpeg handles common media formats.

OpenShot is distributed under the GNU General Public License (v3 or later) and is free to download and use, with no paid editions, trials, or seat-based plans described. It is available as a Linux AppImage and as macOS and Windows installers.
