Visit Subtitle Edit

Subtitle Edit is a desktop application for creating, editing, converting and synchronizing subtitles. It runs natively on Windows, macOS and Linux from a single cross-platform codebase, with self-contained builds that bundle required media components. The software supports speech-to-text, text-to-speech, OCR (including burned-in subtitles), auto-translation, waveform editing, video playback, and a chapter editor for Matroska, MP4 and OGM files.

Features include multiple speech-to-text engines such as WhisperX, Google Cloud STT v2 and whisper.cpp, text-to-speech engines with voice cloning, and OCR engines including Apple Vision OCR, Paddle OCR and Tesseract. AI features include llama.cpp and Ollama engines with batch context, auto-translation, and assisted split/move suggestions. It handles numerous subtitle formats including SubRip, ASSA, WebVTT, EBU-TT, DVB teletext and YouTube .ytt, along with batch conversion, burn-in with hardware encoders, and a statistics dashboard.

Subtitle Edit is aimed at subtitle creators, translators and editors working across platforms. It is available as installer and portable builds for Windows, macOS and Linux; version 5 requires Windows 10 or newer, macOS 12 or newer, or a recent Linux distribution, while version 4 remains available for older systems. The software is free to download, with an optional donation option and a separate online edition offered.
