Defending your rights in the digital world

Visit Electronic Frontier Foundation

The Electronic Frontier Foundation is a nonprofit organization founded in 1990 that defends civil liberties in the digital world. It addresses concerns around user privacy, free expression, and innovation through impact litigation, policy analysis, grassroots activism, and technology development. Its stated mission is to ensure that technology supports freedom, justice, and innovation for all people.

EFF's work spans issues including free speech, privacy, creativity and innovation, transparency, international security, and artificial intelligence. It publishes analysis through Deeplinks, blog posts, press releases, events, legal cases, whitepapers, podcasts, and annual reports, and offers tools such as Privacy Badger, Surveillance Self-Defense, Certbot, Atlas of Surveillance, Cover Your Tracks, Street Level Surveillance, and apkeep. It also runs an Action Center for advocacy and maintains a Vulnerability Disclosure Program covering select software including HTTPS Everywhere, Privacy Badger, Certbot, and Boulder.

EFF is a donor-funded U.S. 501(c)(3) nonprofit that depends on member support. It offers membership, one-time donations, giving societies, corporate giving and sponsorships, and a shop. The organization also provides legal assistance, educational guides, and activist workshops, and accepts security vulnerability reports through its disclosure program, which offers non-cash rewards at its discretion.
