People, Apps and Code You Can Trust

Visit Guardian Project

Guardian Project is an open-source collective founded in 2009 that develops secure, privacy-enhancing mobile applications and tools. It addresses the risks of surveillance, censorship, and cyber threats facing digital communications, providing accessible software for people who need to communicate, browse, and share information more safely.

Its portfolio includes Orbot, a Tor-powered proxy for Android and iOS; Tor Browser for Android; ProofMode, which adds cryptographic signatures to photos and videos; ObscuraCam, which blurs faces and removes image metadata; Haven, which turns a phone into a motion, sound, and vibration detector; and Ripple, which triggers privacy-protecting actions during panic situations. Code projects include SQLCipher, an encrypted database layer on SQLite; IOCipher, virtual encrypted disks; NetCipher, secured networking; TorService, a Tor library for Android; and PanicKit, system-wide panic responses. The collective also contributes to F-Droid and works with the Tor Project.

Guardian Project is aimed at activists, journalists, humanitarian organizations, and everyday users concerned with privacy and security. Its software is open source and available through its own repository and F-Droid; no paid editions, trials, or seat-based or usage-based packaging are described.
