Apache Wicket
Component-oriented, server-side Java web application framework
Apache Wicket is an open source, component-oriented, server-side Java web application framework, in development since 2004. It addresses the challenge of building maintainable web applications within the Java ecosystem, allowing developers to write applications using Java code paired with HTML markup rather than relying on a separate JavaScript stack. Pages and components are real Java objects that support encapsulation, inheritance, and events.
Wicket 10 is built on Java 17 and compatible with Java 21. It includes Ajax components for updating parts of a user interface without writing JavaScript, Content Security Policy (CSP) support with automatic nonce handling, and an OpenRewrite-based migration tool for upgrading from Wicket 9. The framework provides WicketTester for testing pages and components without a browser, internationalization support for over 25 languages, and integration with CDI, Spring, Guice, and Jakarta EE specifications including JPA, EJBs, and Bean Validation. It is distributed under the Apache Software License and is available through Apache Maven or manual download.
