AWStats is a free log file analyzer that turns server logs into graphical statistics for web, streaming, FTP, and mail servers. It runs as a CGI or from the command line and uses a partial information file to process large log files quickly. It reads log formats from tools such as Apache (NCSA combined/XLF/ELF or common/CLF), WebStar, and IIS (W3C), along with many other web, proxy, WAP, streaming, mail, and FTP servers.
Reports cover visits, unique visitors, visit duration, authenticated users, days of week and rush hours, domains and countries with GeoIP detection, hosts, entry and exit pages, file types, web compression, operating systems, browsers, robots, worms, search engines and keywords, HTTP errors, and custom reports. It supports split and unsorted log files, reverse DNS lookup, plugins for country, city, region, ISP, and organization detection, multi-named virtual servers, dynamic CGI output, static HTML/XHTML reports, experimental PDF export, CSS styling, several languages, and a Webmin module.
AWStats is distributed under the GNU General Public License and requires Perl. It suits hosting providers and administrators who can run Perl scripts and read server logs. Version 8.0 is the last release from the original author, with further maintenance releases expected from the community.
