SelfControl
Free macOS application that blocks distracting websites for a set period.
SelfControl is a free, open-source macOS application that restricts access to selected internet destinations for a fixed period. It is intended for people who want to reduce access to distracting websites, mail servers, or other online resources while they work. After a duration is chosen and a blocklist is created, the restriction remains in place until the timer ends, including after a computer restart or removal of the application.
The application provides a simple workflow: set a time limit, add sites to the blocklist, and start the timer. It can target websites, mail servers, and other internet destinations, and it is distributed under the GNU GPL with source code available on GitHub. The current release supports macOS 10.10 and later, with an earlier version available for macOS 10.8 and later. The application is free to download and use, with no paid editions or usage-based pricing described.
