WeeChat
Fast, light and extensible chat client with a text-based user interface
WeeChat is a modular, text-based chat client built around a lightweight core with optional plugins, designed for multi-protocol communication, mainly IRC. It runs on Linux, Unix, BSD, GNU Hurd, Haiku, macOS and Windows (WSL and Cygwin), and is extensible with C, Python, Perl, Ruby, Lua, Tcl, Scheme, Javascript and PHP. It is released under the GNU General Public License version 3.
Its IRC plugin supports multi-servers, IPv6, SSL, proxy, SASL authentication, nicklist, DCC file and chat, anti-flood, lag indicator and command redirection. Interface features include 256 colors, mouse support, customizable bars, horizontal and vertical splits, dynamic line filtering, incremental text search, spell checking and a scripts manager. Plugins and scripts can be loaded and unloaded dynamically, and external graphical or text interfaces can connect to a running instance via the relay protocol. Documentation and the interface are translated into several languages.
WeeChat is aimed at users who work in a terminal and want a customizable, scriptable chat client, as well as developers writing plugins in C or scripts in the supported languages. It is free software with no paid editions, trials or seat-based packaging indicated.
