Adium
A free instant messaging application for macOS that connects to XMPP (Jabber), IRC and IM
Adium is a free, open-source instant messaging client for macOS that connects to services such as XMPP (Jabber) and IRC through the libpurple protocol library. It acts as a third-party client rather than hosting any IM services, bringing multiple accounts into one interface with tabbed chat windows and themeable WebKit message views.
Features include direct integration with the macOS Contacts App, combined contacts that merge accounts into a single person, OTR encryption, file transfer, and an events system with visual notifications via Growl and macOS Notification Center. Customization is available through Xtras, and the interface is translated into 27 languages. The project is developed by volunteers and released under the GNU GPL, with source code hosted on GitHub.
Adium is aimed at macOS users who want a unified client for multiple IM services. It is packaged as a free download, with older versions and source available; no trial or paid editions are indicated.
