UltraVNC
Free, open-source remote desktop access using the VNC/RFB protocol
UltraVNC is remote desktop software that lets you view and control another computer's screen over the internet or a local network using your own mouse and keyboard. It uses the VNC Remote Frame Buffer (RFB) protocol, requiring a VNC Server on the machine sharing its desktop and a VNC Viewer on the machine connecting to it. The project has been developed since 2002 and is distributed under the GNU General Public License.
The software includes file transfer for moving folders between viewer and server with compression, an embedded text chat that runs over the current VNC connection, and optional DSM encryption plugins to secure communications. It is compatible with RealVNC, TightVNC, and most other VNC flavors. An embedded JavaViewer allows connections and file transfers from a web browser on systems supporting Java, including Linux and Mac OS. Related tools include UltraVNC SC (Single Click), the Repeater for NAT-to-NAT connections, and PcHelpWare and uvnc2me, which use UDP and built-in AES encryption.
UltraVNC targets help desks, IT departments, remote support companies, eLearning and classroom control, and individuals accessing a home PC or helping others. It runs on Windows systems from Windows 95 through Windows 11 and Windows Server 2025, with older versions available for legacy releases. The software is free for all uses, including commercial usage, and is licensed under the GNU General Public License.
