Visit The SWORD Project (CrossWire Bible Society)

The SWORD Project is a cross-platform textual publishing and research engine developed by CrossWire Bible Society, a non-income organization that sponsors free, open-source projects. It addresses the need for accessible Bible study and publishing tools by providing a shared electronic library of Bibles, commentaries, devotional and general books, maps, and other resources in many languages, along with a community where volunteers and developers collaborate.

The project offers bindings for most modern programming languages and tools that let publishers make works available across a wide range of devices and operating systems. Applications for Bible study run on Linux, Windows, MacOS, mobile, and web-based platforms, and several are cross-platform. These applications share the same module library, often stored in the same location on a computer, so users can install and compare multiple applications. Modules can be downloaded to extend the library, and a SWORD Project CD can be ordered.

The software and the vast majority of study texts are offered freely, and the organization does not solicit donations. It also serves as a resource pool for Bible societies, outreach ministries, and publishers that do not maintain their own programming staff, providing tools to help them distribute Scripture and other materials.
