Remotion
Motion-based capture platform for remote usability testing of mobile devices.
Remotion is a motion-based capture and replay platform for remote usability testing of mobile device interactions. It records screen and motion data from a participant's phone and replays the session as a 3D model on a desktop application, giving experimenters context about how the device was held and moved alongside what appeared on screen. This supports observation of intent, posture, grip, attention, emotional state, and habits without relying on video recordings.
The system consists of a mobile client for screen and motion capture on Android phones and a desktop application for Mac or Windows that receives data, organizes it, and controls replay. Replay can occur in real time or later, and the interface lets experimenters annotate attention and emotion during observation. Optional add-ons include a Pressure Pad for capturing grip intensity and placement via Arduino, Hardware Replay using a robotic arm, and Website Attention and Emotion Label Suggestions, which predicts annotations from motion behavior and is under development. An iPhone version is not yet implemented.
