Ravada is an open-source VDI broker that lets users connect to virtual desktops through a web browser and a remote viewer supporting the SPICE protocol. It is built for sysadmins who want to deploy on-premise virtual desktops on GNU/Linux systems, with basic GNU/Linux administration knowledge advisable. The back-end is designed so additional hypervisors can be added to the framework; it currently supports KVM.

The web frontend includes user-facing and administrative views: users can see their available machines and adjust settings, while administrators can list machines, manage them, create new machine templates, and start machines. The project is written in Perl using the Mojolicious web framework, with MySQL for data modeling and Weblate for internationalization. It runs on GNU/Linux and relies on components such as KVM, Libvirt, and SPICE, with a responsive interface built with Bootstrap and AngularJS. Source code is licensed under AGPL and hosted on GitHub, and documentation is available in HTML, PDF, and EPUB.
