Hack

A programming language developed by Meta, built for HHVM.

Visit Hack

Hack is a programming language developed by Meta that combines the fast development cycle of a dynamically typed language with static typing. It provides instantaneous type checking, asynchronous operations, generics, and XHP for type-checked UI code. Hack is built specifically for HHVM, a high performance runtime for Hack applications.

Hack provides incremental type checking as files are edited, asynchronous functions for cooperative multi-tasking and combining I/O requests, and a rich set of generic types including type parameters, constraints, associated type constants, and reification. XHP provides a native XML-like representation of output such as HTML, allowing UI code to be type-checked with automatic context-appropriate escaping of variables. Hack was open-sourced in March 2014 and is in active development alongside HHVM, with changes released frequently.
