Zim

A desktop wiki

Visit Zim

Zim is a desktop wiki and graphical text editor for maintaining a collection of wiki pages. Pages can contain links to other pages, simple formatting and images, and are stored in a folder structure with attachments. All data is kept as plain text files with wiki formatting, so content can be opened with other editors or file managers. Creating a new page is done by linking to a nonexistent page, and files are saved automatically.

Zim supports markup such as headings, bullet lists, bold, italic and highlighted text. Plugins add a task list manager, equation editor, spell checking, calendar pages, a tray icon and support for version control. Pages can be organized hierarchically, with bidirectional links showing which pages link to a given page. Notes can be exported to HTML, and images can be opened with installed image editing programs. Zim is intended for personal notes, TODO lists, journals, meeting or lecture notes, brainstorming and drafting longer documents.
