Uptrace is an observability platform built on OpenTelemetry and ClickHouse that unifies traces, metrics, and logs in a single system. It addresses the challenge of high observability costs and tool fragmentation by providing a unified view of application performance, infrastructure health, and error patterns without requiring users to jump between separate tools.
The platform offers core observability signals including distributed tracing with service graphs and RED metrics, log and error grouping with stacktrace inspection, and infrastructure and application metrics. It provides a query language (UQL) for spans and logs, PromQL-compatible metric queries, and a search syntax for fast data exploration. Users can build custom dashboards via UI or YAML, set up alerting with notifications through email, Slack, and PagerDuty, and use transformations to rename, delete, or sample telemetry data. Integrations include Grafana (as a Prometheus and Tempo data source), an MCP server for AI assistant queries, and SSO with Google, Okta, and Keycloak. The platform supports auto-instrumentation for languages including Go, Python, Ruby, Node.js, .NET, Java, and others.
Uptrace is designed for engineering teams and SREs who need production-grade observability without per-seat pricing. It offers a free self-hosted Community Edition with no feature limits, a cloud free tier covering 50 GB of spans and logs and 5,000 timeseries per month, and on-premises deployments with a license. Cloud billing is based on data ingested per GB and active timeseries datapoints, with no per-seat or per-host fees, and includes automatic volume discounts and a hard monthly budget cap.
