Paperpile

Reference manager for collecting, organizing, sharing, and citing research papers

Visit Paperpile

Paperpile is a reference manager for researchers that brings papers and PDFs into a single library, supports reading and annotation, and generates citations and bibliographies while writing. It was founded in 2012 by three computational biologists and is developed in the US, Canada, and Austria.

The product covers collecting papers and PDFs in one click, organizing references with folders and labels, duplicate detection, metadata extraction and repair, full-text search across PDFs, notes and highlights, and sharing through private links, shared folders, and shared libraries. Citation plugins work with Google Docs and Microsoft Word, with BibTeX and LaTeX export and import, plus an Overleaf integration. Integrations include browser extensions, academic databases and publisher pages, Google Drive sync, and OneDrive sync (beta).

Paperpile is aimed at students, faculty, researchers, and research teams. It is packaged as a free 30-day trial followed by annual subscriptions in Regular and Enterprise editions, with seat-based group discounts and academic discounts; Enterprise adds SAML single sign-on, advanced security settings, custom agreements, and vendor security reviews.
