DSpace
Open-source repository software for preserving and providing access to long-term content.
DSpace is a free, open-source web application for building institutional repositories that store, preserve and provide open access to digital content such as documents, images, video and datasets. It is developed and supported by a global user community with organizational home at Lyrasis, and has been in development since 2002.
Key features include Apache SOLR-based search for metadata and full-text contents, UTF-8 support, granular group-based access control, optimization for Google Scholar indexing, and an interface available in 22 languages. DSpace integrates with external services such as ORCID, OpenAIRE and ROR, and manages a range of digital file formats including PDF, Word, JPEG, MPEG and TIFF files. It is designed to be customizable and can be extended or integrated with complementary services and tools in the scholarly ecosystem.
DSpace is intended for academic, non-profit and commercial organizations building open digital repositories, including research libraries, subject-based repositories, dataset repositories and media-based repositories. The software is freely available under a BSD license and can be installed out of the box. Organizations can also become members of the DSpace community, which provides funding for program initiatives, development efforts and staffing, and offers benefits such as discounts on events and trainings and opportunities to join program governance.
