Dagu
Local-first orchestration that just works
Dagu is a local-first workflow orchestration tool that runs as a single open-source binary. It solves the problem of adding operational structure—such as scheduling, retries, and run history—to existing scripts and commands without requiring a separate database, framework, or platform. Workflows are defined as Directed Acyclic Graphs (DAGs) in declarative YAML files, keeping the orchestration layer separate from the actual business logic.
Its main capabilities include running shell commands, Docker containers, Kubernetes Jobs, SSH commands, SQL, and HTTP requests directly from YAML. It supports cron-based scheduling with timezone and overlap policies, parallel and reusable sub-DAGs, human tasks, retries, timeouts, and notifications via webhooks. The built-in Web UI provides live status, step logs, run history, and the ability to edit workflow YAML. Dagu stores all state in local files and runs on Linux, macOS, and Windows.
Dagu is designed for teams and individuals who need to schedule and coordinate existing scripts, containers, or commands without adopting a heavy platform. It is open-source and available as a free download. Installation options include a script, Docker, Homebrew, and npm. There is no mention of a paid plan, trial, or seat-based licensing; the tool runs as a single binary with optional queues or distributed workers for scaling.
