Free open source full-stack framework for rapid development of fast, scalable, secure and
web2py is a free, open-source, full-stack Python web framework for building database-driven web applications. It is distributed as a self-contained package that includes a multi-threaded web server, a relational database, and a web-based IDE and management interface, with no third-party dependencies required. The framework follows a Model-View-Controller design and supports Python 3 and 2.7, running on Windows, Mac, Unix/Linux, Google App Engine, and Amazon EC2, and working with Apache, Nginx, Lighttpd, Cherokee, and other web servers via CGI, FastCGI, WSGI, mod_proxy, and mod_python.
Its capabilities include a Database Abstraction Layer that generates SQL in real time, support for SQLite, PostgreSQL, MySQL, MSSQL, FireBird, Sybase, Oracle, IBM DB2, Informix, Ingres, MongoDB, and Google App Engine, and protocols such as HTML/XML, RSS/ATOM, RTF, PDF, JSON, AJAX, XML-RPC, CSV, REST, WIKI, Flash/AMF, and Linked Data (RDF). It provides server-side form validation, internationalization, multiple authentication methods, role-based access control, error logging and ticketing, caching methods, the jQuery library, and a scaffolding application. Applications are organized into Models, Views, Controllers, Cron Jobs, Modules, and Static Files. web2py is available in source code for any operating system that runs Python and in binary versions for OSX and Windows, and is licensed under LGPLv3.
