TortoiseGit

Windows shell interface to Git

Visit TortoiseGit

TortoiseGit is a Windows Shell interface to Git, based on TortoiseSVN. It integrates Git operations into Windows Explorer through context menus and overlay icons that show file status, so it can be used with any development tools and any type of file rather than being tied to a specific IDE. It supports common Git tasks such as committing, viewing logs, diffing versions, creating branches and tags, and creating patches.

The commit dialog includes an integrated spell checker, path and keyword auto-completion, and per-project settings such as minimum log message length. TortoiseGit provides a flexible mechanism for integrating web-based issue tracking systems, with issue numbers shown in log messages and converted into links. Additional tools include TortoiseGitMerge for viewing changes, resolving conflicts, and applying patch files; TortoiseGitBlame for showing blames and log messages per line; and TortoiseGitIDiff for comparing image files. The software is available in many languages and includes a custom crash report tool.

TortoiseGit is developed under the GPL and is free to use, including in commercial environments. It is open source, with source code freely available.
