Skim is a macOS PDF reader and note-taker designed for reading and annotating scientific papers, while also serving as a general-purpose viewer for any PDF file. It brings annotations, highlights, snapshots and bookmarks together for review, and can export notes as plain text.

Features include adding and editing notes, highlighting text with one-swipe modes, snapshots, table-of-contents and thumbnail navigation with visual history, full-screen reading, presentations with transitions, internal link previews, a reading bar, magnification and cropping tools, bookmarks, Keychain password storage, automatic download of remote PDFs, Apple Remote Control support, Spotlight support, and extensive AppleScript support. It interacts with LaTeX, SyncTeX and PDFSync, and integrates with BibDesk and other third-party applications.

Skim is aimed at readers of scientific PDFs as well as general PDF viewing on macOS. It is available as a free download for macOS 10.13 or higher, with earlier versions provided for older systems; a SkimNotes framework is also available.
