Serviio is a free media server that streams music, video and image files from a home network to renderer devices such as TVs, Blu-ray players, games consoles and mobile phones. It runs on Windows, Mac and Linux, including NAS and other embedded systems, and uses device profiles with real-time transcoding to accommodate differences in media format support.

Core capabilities include streaming audio, video and images in native or transcoded form, online sources such as RSS feeds and live streams, a plugin system, playlist and subtitle support, automatic library updates, metadata extraction from embedded tags, local files and online sources, video thumbnails and artwork, movie and series categorisation, and trakt.tv integration. Renderer profiles can be edited and assigned automatically by device or IP. The server exposes a REST API, and third-party apps such as ServiiGo and ServiiDroid provide mobile browsing and remote management. An Alexa skill enables voice control.

Serviio is aimed at households that want to share media across connected devices. The free edition covers local network streaming, while the paid Pro edition adds remote access over the internet through MediaBrowser and compatible apps.
