Seashells

Pipe output from command-line programs to the web in real-time

Visit Seashells

Seashells is a service that streams output from command-line programs to a generated web URL in real time, so you can watch long-running processes that print progress to the console or share output with others. It works without installing anything on your machine, using netcat, which is preinstalled on most systems.

Output can be viewed at a generated URL, with a plaintext variant available by changing the path from /v/ to /p/. An optional seashells client, installed via pip, adds features such as forwarding output to both stdout and Seashells, and a delay option so you can see the URL before a full-screen command takes over. Sessions are garbage collected after one day, and there is no accounts system; each IP address is limited to five concurrent sessions. The service is in beta and is not recommended for uptime-critical applications.
