Visit Random Labs

Slate is a generalist software agent from Random Labs that runs in the terminal and handles repo-level engineering work that would otherwise be split across multiple agent sessions. It is designed to keep a task alive across exploration, implementation, builds, test failures, and follow-up edits, while managing context deliberately by tracking what matters and summarizing as needed.

Slate coordinates parallel work by splitting independent research, coding, and verification into focused subagent threads, then bringing useful results back into the main session. It plans implicitly by researching a task before presenting a plan, and uses a built-in compaction algorithm to surface important information. It supports file mentions and command access within the terminal interface, and routes requests through OpenRouter to multiple model providers. Privacy controls include Private Mode, which disables logging to Braintrust and applies zero data retention across LLM providers, and is enabled by default for organization members.

Slate is intended for engineers working on real codebases and is available in open beta, installed via npm as a global CLI package.
