Pingdom is a website and web application monitoring service from SolarWinds that combines synthetic monitoring with real user monitoring (RUM) in a single interface. It tracks availability and performance for websites, web applications and servers, helping teams detect outages, diagnose causes and understand how visitors experience their site.
Synthetic monitoring includes uptime checks run from over 100 locations worldwide, page speed analysis, and transaction monitoring for flows such as login, search and checkout. Alerts can be sent by email, SMS, push notification or webhook, with root cause analysis tools like traceroute and server response codes. RUM provides live maps, user experience monitoring, page load performance data and user behavior metrics, filterable by browser, device and geography. Public status pages, maintenance windows, shareable reports and a Pingdom API are also available. The platform can be extended with SolarWinds AppOptics for infrastructure and application performance monitoring and Loggly for log management.
Pingdom is aimed at web developers, digital marketers and web hosting providers. It is packaged as a customizable subscription with separate Synthetic Monitoring and Real User Monitoring plans, billed annually or monthly, with tiers based on the number of uptime checks, advanced checks, SMS credits and pageviews. A 30-day free trial covers both synthetics and RUM, and an Enterprise edition is available for higher pageview volumes.
