iTerm2

A replacement for Terminal and the successor to iTerm for macOS

Visit iTerm2

iTerm2 is a terminal emulator for macOS 10.14 and newer, designed as a replacement for Terminal and the successor to iTerm. It addresses the needs of people who spend significant time working in a terminal by providing a configurable environment with features for navigating, searching, and managing sessions.

The application includes split panes, a hotkey window, find-on-page search with regular expression support, autocomplete, copy mode, paste history, and instant replay. It supports 24-bit and 256-color modes, mouse reporting, Notification Center alerts, and Unicode features including combining marks, full-width characters, and emoji. Shell Integration lets iTerm2 track the current prompt, command, host, and directory, enabling navigation between prompts, command completion, and automatic profile switching based on hostname, username, or directory. Other capabilities include user-defined triggers, smart selection, inline images, timestamps, annotations, badges, captured output for locating warnings and errors, and advanced paste with text transformation. A built-in password manager stores credentials in the macOS keychain.

iTerm2 is free software licensed under GPL v2, with source code available on GitHub. It is intended for developers, system administrators, and other users who work extensively in a terminal on macOS.
