cmux
The terminal built for multitasking, organization, and programmability.
cmux is a free, open source native macOS terminal built on Ghostty's rendering engine, designed for running and monitoring multiple AI coding agents side by side. It addresses the problem of keeping track of several concurrent terminal-based agent sessions by organizing them into workspaces with vertical tabs, split panes, and notification rings that signal when a pane needs attention.
Core features include horizontal and vertical splits, an in-app scriptable browser for DOM inspection and automation, a CLI and Unix socket API for driving workspaces and panes programmatically, session restore, SSH and remote tmux support, and an iOS companion app. It works with any CLI coding agent, including Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI, and others, and supports agent subagents as native panes.
cmux is aimed at developers running multiple terminal-based agents. The macOS terminal and local agents are free under a GPL license. Paid individual plans add cloud agents on Cloud VMs, unlimited workspaces, and the iOS app, with tiers differentiated by VM resources. A Team plan is seat-based with centralized billing, and an Enterprise edition offers self-hosted or air-gapped execution, SSO, and audit logs.
