InvoiceShelf is a self-hosted, open-source invoicing application that gives businesses full control over their billing data. It solves the problem of relying on third-party SaaS platforms with recurring subscription fees and potential vendor lock-in, allowing organizations to keep customer records, invoices, and payment information on their own infrastructure.
The application provides a complete billing toolkit including professional invoicing with branded PDFs, estimates and proposals that convert to invoices with one click, expense tracking with receipt attachment, and recurring billing for retainers and subscriptions. It supports multi-currency with automatic exchange rate sync, multi-company setups with separate branding and tax rules per business, and a customer portal for clients to view and pay invoices. Key capabilities include a built-in AI assistant that works with the user's own OpenRouter key, a module marketplace for extensibility, a public REST API, and support for CJK and RTL scripts in PDF templates.
InvoiceShelf is designed for small businesses, agencies, and consultancies that want to manage their billing independently. It is released under the AGPL-3.0 license and is free to self-host with no seats, subscriptions, or usage limits. The software can be deployed via Docker or manual installation, and community support is available through Discord.
