Hacker Smacker was created to explore how Friend of a Friend (FoaF) relationship networks work. The idea is that good friend choices help surface additional quality content by highlighting comments from your friends' connections. The project was also a learning exercise for building a similar social layer in NewsBlur, a visual RSS reader.
