Formance is an open-source, programmable financial infrastructure platform built around a double-entry ledger. It addresses the problem of teams rebuilding core money-movement systems under deadline, where balances drift, internal records disagree with provider statements, and each new payout or wallet flow becomes another place for money to get lost. The platform records atomic, multi-posting transactions modeled in Numscript, keeping balances consistent by construction.
Its main modules include Connectivity, which standardizes access to providers like Stripe, Adyen, and Wise behind a single API with a normalized payments-v3 model; Reconciliation, which matches internal records against external statements and flags drift; and Flows, which orchestrates multi-step money movement such as splits, fees, holds, and payouts as durable, event-driven programs. A Schema Builder authors ledger schemas in YAML, and the platform offers enterprise controls including IAM, RBAC, SSO, audit logs, and an admin console. The core ledger is MIT-licensed and can be self-hosted or run managed; connectors are available in open-source (CE) and licensed (EE) editions.
