eSim is a free and open-source electronic design automation (EDA) tool for circuit design, simulation, analysis, and PCB layout. It addresses the need for an affordable alternative to proprietary software like OrCAD, PSpice, and LTspice, particularly for educational institutions and small-to-medium enterprises. Built on existing open-source projects, eSim integrates schematic creation, simulation, and PCB design into a single workflow.
The tool uses KiCad for schematic drawing and PCB layout, and Ngspice for circuit simulation. It includes a Model Builder and Subcircuit Builder for editing device models and subcircuits. eSim supports mixed-signal simulation and interfaces with OpenModelica for modeling. It also integrates with GHDL, Verilator, Icarus Verilog, and Makerchip for digital simulation, and with SkyWater SKY130 and IHP PDKs for physical design. A cloud version, eSim on Cloud, is available, and work-in-progress integration with OpenROAD Flow Scripts aims to enable a complete RTL-to-GDSII flow.
eSim is designed for students, educators, and professionals in electronics. It is released under the GNU General Public License and supports Ubuntu and Windows operating systems.
