Codeception is a BDD-styled PHP testing framework for testing PHP web applications, built on top of PHPUnit. It addresses the challenge of writing and maintaining tests across different layers of an application by providing a high-level domain language in which tests are expressed as sets of user actions.

The framework includes a flexible set of modules covering browser testing via Selenium WebDriver and PhpBrowser, framework testing for Symfony, Laravel, Zend Framework, Yii, and Phalcon, as well as REST and SOAP API testing. Data-driven tests can connect to sources such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis, and Memcache, with snapshot comparison of data changes. Unit and integration testing are supported through PHPUnit compatibility.

Codeception is aimed at PHP developers testing web applications. It is open source under the MIT license, with enterprise support and training available separately.
