ByteAsk

The AI coding agent for C and C++ that verifies its own work

Visit ByteAsk

ByteAsk is an AI coding agent for C and C++ that runs in the terminal. It edits code in your repository, then runs the compiler, sanitizers, debuggers, and your test suite before presenting a diff for review. It can join an existing gdb session through a bridge, and supports tools including LLVM, GCC, clang, gdb, Valgrind, ASan, UBSan, TSan, perf, make, CMake, QuickBench, vcpkg, Conan, and Git.

It reads projects the way clangd does, generating compile_commands.json for symbol-based navigation, and runs clang-tidy, clang-format, cppcheck, objdump, nm, readelf, rr, and Callgrind as visible tool calls. Reference corpora return cited excerpts from standards and datasheets. Models can be managed through ByteAsk, brought via your own OpenAI, Anthropic, or Gemini key, or served from self-hosted servers such as vLLM, Ollama, llama.cpp, LM Studio, TGI, SGLang, or a LiteLLM proxy. It runs on Linux, macOS, and Windows, with plugins for VS Code, Cursor, JetBrains, Neovim, Emacs, and Zed.

ByteAsk is aimed at developers working in C and C++. It is packaged as a free plan with limited managed-model usage, a 14-day full-access trial with your own API keys, and paid Pro, Max, and Ultra editions with increasing managed-model allowances. Companies with more than 10 people need Team or Enterprise to use their own models.
