Buildbot

The Continuous Integration Framework

Visit Buildbot

Buildbot is an open-source framework for automating software build, test, and release processes. It functions as a job scheduling system that queues jobs, executes them when required resources are available, and reports results, addressing the need for repeatable and reliable automation across the software development cycle.

An installation consists of one or more masters and a collection of workers. Masters monitor source-code repositories for changes, coordinate worker activity, and report results, while workers run on a variety of operating systems. Buildbot supports distributed, parallel execution of jobs across multiple platforms, flexible integration with version-control systems, and extensive status reporting. Configuration is provided through a Python script to the master, allowing dynamic generation of configuration and customized components; the framework is implemented in Twisted Python and is compatible with all major operating systems. Capabilities cover continuous integration, continuous deployment, release management, application deployment, and complex build systems.

Buildbot is intended for teams and organizations that need to automate build, test, deployment, and release workflows, including cases where standard CI tools' fixed designs do not fit. It is licensed under version 2 of the GNU Public License.
