Arq is backup software for Mac and Windows PC that copies files to a cloud account you already have, an attached disk, or both, with end-to-end encryption. It uses filesystem snapshot technology to create point-in-time backups even while files are changing, and keeps a version history so earlier copies can be recovered after corruption, deletion, or ransomware.
Features include compression, de-duplication, block-level incremental backup, unlimited backup of any file size or type, versioned file backup, unlimited retention, ransomware protection, and in-app restore. Backups can target multiple destinations, including cloud providers, SFTP servers, external drives, and NAS. Scheduling and controls cover hourly or daily runs, Wi-Fi and network-interface restrictions, battery-based exclusions, bandwidth limits, retention limits, and custom file/folder exclusions. Backups are stored in an open, documented format.
Arq is aimed at Mac and Windows users who want to manage their own backup storage. A 30-day free trial is available. Arq 7 is a perpetual app license with one year of updates included, after which additional update years can be purchased per computer. Arq Premium is a subscription covering Arq 7 on up to 5 computers with managed cloud storage and web access to backups, with additional storage billed by usage.
