WinDirStat is a free, open-source disk usage analyzer and cleanup assistant for Microsoft Windows. It scans folders, drives, network shares, or MTP devices to show what fills storage, with views for largest files, file types, treemaps, sunbursts, and flame graphs, plus comparison of logical and physical sizes.
Features include search by name, size, type, or owner; content-hash duplicate detection with optional sparse hashing; permission inspection; storage tier cost estimates; CSV/JSON report export; scan snapshots, automated scans, and file-system change monitoring; cleanup tools; and file recovery attempts on local NTFS, exFAT, and FAT drives. Settings cover layouts, fonts, dark mode, and portable settings, with source code and issue tracking on GitHub.
It is distributed as free, open-source software under the GNU GPL v3 or later.
