SuperTokens is an open source user authentication provider that gives developers a way to add user infrastructure to their applications. It offers both a self-hosted open source version and a managed cloud service, following an open core model where the base features are free and features aimed at larger companies are paid.
Its authentication module covers email and password, passwordless login, magic links, social sign-in, and B2B authentication with multi-tenancy. Additional capabilities include multi-factor authentication, single sign-on, account linking, RBAC, a user management dashboard, session management, and an attack protection suite. Developers can customize behavior through prebuilt UI overrides, backend API hooks, and frontend hooks. The platform supports migration of existing user bases, including password hashes, TOTP secrets, roles, and permissions, and can be tested locally or in CI/CD pipelines using an in-memory database.
