SketchUp is a 3D modeling and design ecosystem from Trimble for creating, communicating, and collaborating on architectural, construction, interior design, landscape, and urban planning projects. It supports workflows from initial concept sketches through to 2D documentation and buildable models, with cloud-based project sharing and access to pre-built model libraries.
The software runs on web, iPad, and desktop platforms, with 2D documentation through LayOut. Key capabilities include 3D Warehouse for pre-built models and materials, Extension Warehouse for third-party extensions, Trimble Connect for cloud collaboration, Scan Essentials for point cloud modeling, PreDesign for climate insights, and Revit-to-SketchUp import. Additional tools include Photoreal Materials, V-Ray rendering, Live Components, and Sefaira for energy modeling. SketchUp also offers APIs through its Developer Center for building custom tools and integrations.
SketchUp is available through annual and monthly subscriptions across several editions: Go for essential 3D design on iPad and web, Pro for professional desktop modeling and documentation, and Studio for advanced visualization and BIM workflows on Windows. Specialized Pro plans cover scan-to-3D, civil contractor, and advanced interoperability workflows. Team and enterprise options include volume purchasing, SSO, and user management. Education plans are available for students, educators, and universities, while SketchUp for Schools is free with a Google Workspace for Education or Microsoft Education account.
