PMT (PNG and MNG Tools)

Open source tools for creating and manipulating PNG, MNG, and JNG files

Visit PMT (PNG and MNG Tools)

PMT (PNG and MNG Tools) is an open source project that develops command-line tools for creating and manipulating PNG, MNG, and JNG files. It addresses tasks such as optimizing PNG compression, converting between image formats, and working with image metadata and embedded profiles.

The toolset includes pngcrush for optimizing PNG compression, along with pngzop, png2uri, pngmeta, and the bmp2png/png2bmp converters. The project also provides a Browser Gamma Test, test files containing various ICC profiles and iTXt chunks, and the PNG, MNG, and JNG specifications. A plan covers conversion of Exif and TIFF/EP image files to and from PNG and JNG, and a git repository hosts the tools in separate branches.

The tools are aimed at developers and users working directly with PNG, MNG, and JNG files from the command line. The project is distributed as open source, with no paid editions, trials, or seat-based licensing described.
