Open Badge Factory

Platform for recognizing and issuing digital skill badges

Open Badge Factory is an online platform for creating, issuing, and managing Open Badges, the open standard for digital badges containing verifiable information about skills, achievements, and learning. It supports badge applications, endorsements, badge sharing between organisations, milestone badges, multilingual badges, and standalone PDF badge certificates. Recipients can store and share badges through the companion Open Badge Passport service, available on the web and as a mobile application.

The platform integrates through an open API, LTI, and plugins for Moodle and Itslearning, with Zapier support for no-code automation. It includes reporting tools, templates, branding options, and support for competency frameworks such as ESCO and CASE. Open Badge Factory and Open Badge Passport are certified to the Open Badges v3.0 standard and GDPR compliant.

It is aimed at organisations of various sizes, including higher education institutions and workforce or community programmes. Subscriptions are annual and tiered as Basic, Premium, Pro, and Enterprise, with limits on badge classes, issuing volume, and available features; Enterprise is quoted individually. A 60-day free trial at Pro level is offered, and recipients can use Open Badge Passport free of charge.
