Halo is an open-source website building tool for creating blogs, knowledge bases, corporate sites, and online stores without extensive technical knowledge. It provides a built-in editor supporting rich text and Markdown formats, along with configuration forms, site logs and monitoring, backup and restore, and data migration from other platforms. The project code is open source and actively maintained, with Docker recommended for deployment.
Halo is built on a plugin architecture that lets users enable or disable plugins independently and apply themes to change a site's appearance. It offers a RESTful API for integration and secondary development, multiple storage strategies including local and S3-compatible object storage, and several identity authentication methods. AI capabilities are introduced through plugins, including AI-assisted writing and a Q&A assistant that turns a knowledge base into an interactive system, with support for switching between multiple AI models and providers. A Halo CLI and accompanying Skills are provided for AI agent integration. The platform also includes a built-in full-text search engine, extensible via plugins for external search engines, and an application market for discovering themes and plugins.
