Epicenter

Local-first, open-source apps sharing one folder of plain text and SQLite

Visit Epicenter

Epicenter is a local-first workspace that stores data as plain text files and SQLite databases in a single folder on the user's machine. It is designed to keep notes, transcripts, and related material together so that different applications can work from the same data without exports or copy-pasting. The project is open source under AGPL-3.0, and the workspace can run entirely offline; optional sync is available through an open-source server that can be self-hosted.

The platform includes Whispering, a transcription tool that works with local and cloud models and outputs plain text, and epicenter.sh, which lets users query their codebase from any device through a local OpenCode instance and secure tunneling. The workspace is built with Rust, Svelte 5, and CRDT-backed local-first architecture, and it is compatible with tools such as Obsidian, VS Code, grep and ripgrep, Git, Claude, and OpenCode. The pages describe the software as free and open source, with additional tools planned, but do not specify editions, seat-based pricing, or usage-based plans.
