Django SQL Dashboard

Authenticated interface for executing read-only SQL queries against PostgreSQL and sharing

Visit Django SQL Dashboard

Django SQL Dashboard is an authenticated interface for running read-only SQL queries directly against a PostgreSQL database, bringing a subset of Datasette to Django. It supports ad-hoc analysis and debugging, and lets users build reporting dashboards that can be shared with team members or published online.

Queries can be bookmarked and shared, with named parameters turned into form fields for interactive dashboards. Saved dashboards have separate view and edit permissions, and results can be exported as CSV or TSV. Widgets include bar charts, big numbers, progress bars, word clouds, and markdown or HTML output, with custom widgets built through the Django template system. Access uses Django's authentication and permissions, and SQL passed via a query string must be signed. The documentation recommends a dedicated read-only PostgreSQL role with a table allow-list, an optional query time limit, and a read-only reporting replica for stronger isolation.

It is intended for teams working with Django applications backed by PostgreSQL. Installation is via pip with Django migrations, and configuration covers a read-only database user, a "dashboard" database alias, Django permissions, and optional dj-database-url and django-configurations support. A "danger mode" allows operation without a read-only database user. No pricing, plans, or trials are described.
