Free and open-source cloud storage encryption
Cryptomator is an open-source encryption tool that encrypts files and filenames locally before they are uploaded to cloud storage services such as Dropbox, Google Drive, and OneDrive. It uses AES-256 encryption and is designed to give users sole control over their encryption keys, addressing the risk that cloud providers may hold or misuse decryption keys.
The software creates encrypted folders called vaults, which appear as virtual drives on the user's device. It offers client-side encryption for both files and filenames, and is available on desktop and mobile platforms. Cryptomator Hub extends this with team features including user and group management, zero-knowledge key management, audit logs, and integration with existing identity management. The desktop app is free for personal use, while mobile app access requires a separate one-time purchase per platform. Cryptomator Hub offers a free self-hosted Community edition for up to five seats, a managed Standard plan billed per seat per month, and an Enterprise plan with premium support starting at fifty seats.
