code_saturne
A free, open-source software developed primarily by EDF R&D for computational fluid dynam
code_saturne is a general-purpose computational fluid dynamics solver developed primarily by EDF R&D for industrial and research applications. It addresses complex fluid mechanics and pollutant transport problems, including steady and unsteady, laminar and turbulent, incompressible and weakly compressible flows in 2D, 2D axisymmetric, and 3D configurations, with scalar transport and isothermal or thermally coupled cases.
The solver supports distributed-memory parallelism through MPI with optional OpenMP shared-memory support, using mesh partitioning via ParMETIS and PT-SCOTCH with ghost-cell communication. Turbulence modeling includes RANS and LES approaches. Dedicated multiphysics modules cover combustion (gas, pulverized coal, heavy fuel oil, biomass), radiative heat transfer, atmospheric flows, Joule effect and electric arcs, rotor/stator interaction, weakly compressible flows, magnetohydrodynamics, and Lagrangian particle tracking. The framework supports fully unstructured meshes, and GPU acceleration is under development.
code_saturne is intended for engineering design studies and scientific simulations in energy, environmental, aerospace, and manufacturing domains. It is free and open-source software, with no paid editions, trials, or seat-based licensing described.
