Calmly Writer

Calmly Writer is a distraction-free writing application that reduces the formatting controls found in traditional word processors so writers can concentrate on their text. It works directly with local files, with no mandatory cloud storage, and documents remain portable plain files that can be saved to folders such as Dropbox or Google Drive.

The editor is a WYSIWYG markdown editor, so headings, tables, and lists display in their final form while writing, with an optional toolbar for formatting. Features include focus mode, typewriter sounds, smart punctuation, a customizable caret, full screen mode, and color themes. It also provides word and character counts with custom targets, reading time, a table of contents, comments, multiple documents in tabs, permanent autosave and backups, spell-check in multiple languages, right-to-left support, and an Open Dyslexic mode. Documents can be exported to Word, PDF, Markdown, or HTML.

Calmly Writer runs on Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, ChromeOS, and the browser. The desktop edition is licensed with a single payment covering Windows, Mac, and Linux, with a 14-day free trial available; the Android app is distributed separately through Google Play.
